The aim of the Sponsor a class (SAC) programme is to help ensure the visible safety of children on the roads in the United Kingdom. By using the SAC Visibility Kit, children become more aware of road and safety issues. We can greatly reduce the chance of accidents, injury or even death just by taking logical precautions and making it our culture to be safe.

Why wear a SAC Visibility Kit:

Been Seen – Be Safe, an excellent motto for children travelling or walking on the roads in the United Kingdom but what does it really mean?

Wearing a high visibility waistcoat makes children clearly visible and increases safety on the street. Please click here to read more.

Should a Visibility Kit be part of school uniform?

When was the SAC programme started: The Sponsor a class (SAC) programme was officially launched in October 2006 at the London Schools and Educational Fair, at Olympia, in London.

Who Pays: Payment for the kits is made through sponsorship by local companies, organisations or individuals. The aim of this is to keep the sponsorship local creating a sense of community. Upon completion, sponsors are awarded a certificate and will have their website address entered into the SAC website list of Sponsors, which may then link to their website. What’s the Cost? Please go to Sponsor a class page.

Who Benefits: The SAC programme has been developed to give every child and youth in the UK the benefit of safety on the roads. The programme is designed to traverse economic, cultural and social barriers that may normally prevent a child from receiving a kit.

Road Safety Information: Parents and children can visit our links page together, which contains interesting and relevant facts and information about road safety and related issues as well as how to enjoy organised walks to and from school.

References: Sponsor a class can be contacted and referenced through the Head Teachers and Bursars Handbook of Sustainable Procurement in Education (The Green Book), a government sponsored handbook, see under Reflective and Safety Clothing; ‘Seen but not hurt’.

What the Audit Commission said; “Young people are among the most vulnerable of road users. One in seven pedestrians killed in road collisions is a child or adolescent. A fifth of all drivers involved in an accident are under 25 years old. So road safety is a really big issue for the young people that your school or college works with” .

By joining the SAC programme you are acting positively to help reduce the number of accidents, injuries and deaths of young people on the roads in the United Kingdom.
